The starting point

From scattered data to one question: what can this person do?

The first thing an IVIP delivers is the answer to the question every other tool only answers in fragments: what can this identity do in total – across AD, Entra ID, business applications and cloud? Once that answer lives in one place, a series of everyday tasks changes character: the offboarding check becomes a lookup instead of a survey, and the auditor's sample becomes a report instead of two weeks of archaeology.

But the reference work is only the beginning. The real value lies in the analytics applied to the consolidated data foundation.

The gains

What the analytics typically find

  • Orphaned accounts: active accounts with no owner in HR – departed employees, old consultants and forgotten test accounts that can still log in.
  • Accumulated entitlements: employees who have changed roles several times and brought all their old access along the way.
  • Hidden privileges: access that is privileged in effect but sits outside the PAM solution's radar – nested group memberships and direct assignments.
  • Dangerous combinations: entitlements that are harmless on their own but together break segregation of duties – such as being able to create a supplier and approve the payment.
  • Unused access: entitlements that have not been used for months – the easiest clean-up there is, because nobody misses them.

Compliance

Evidence the auditors can use

NIS2, DORA and ISO 27001 make the same demand in practice: you must be able to document who has access to what, that the access is justified, and that it is removed when the justification disappears. Without a consolidated data foundation, that documentation becomes a manual exercise repeated at every audit – and out of date the moment it is finished.

With a continuously updated overview, the burden of proof turns around: the report is pulled when the auditors ask, and deviations are discovered by you before they are discovered by others. For management, who under NIS2 are personally accountable for governance, the difference is tangible.

The foundation

The clean data foundation – before and after IGA

A large share of all IGA projects are delayed by the same thing: the data foundation turns out to be in worse shape than assumed. Roles that do not match reality, accounts without owners, and entitlements nobody can explain must be cleaned up while the project waits. An IVIP moves that clean-up forward – the overview and the analytics deliver a cleansed foundation before implementation starts, and the requirements for the role model can be built on data instead of assumptions.

And for organisations that already run IGA, the value is mirrored: the analytics show whether the role model still matches reality, whether recertification catches what matters, and whether access has grown up around the processes. Visibility is an ongoing check that governance actually works – not a one-off exercise.
