IAM Maturity Assessment

Do you know where you stand?

Before you invest in processes, products, or projects, one question needs an answer: how mature is your identity and access governance today? We give you an honest, documented picture of strengths, weaknesses, and risks – and a roadmap to the next maturity level that your management can act on.

Why measure maturity?

You can't prioritize what you haven't measured

  • Prioritization requires a shared picture. Without a documented baseline, IAM investments are driven by gut feeling, and the effort rarely lands where it creates the most value.
  • Compliance requires documentation. NIS2, ISO 27001, and GDPR all presume verifiable control over who has access to what. The assessment shows exactly where your biggest gaps are.
  • Complexity grows from within. Hybrid environments, more systems, and accumulated entitlements expand the attack surface year by year. Weak points must be found before they become incidents.
  • Management is now accountable. Under NIS2, access governance is a management responsibility. A maturity assessment gives your board and executives the decision-making basis they are now required to have.

The maturity staircase: from Ad hoc to Optimized. The assessment places you on it, and the roadmap shows the way up.

Method

Four dimensions we measure

Identity lifecycle

On-, re-, and offboarding (JML): does access follow the employee – or does it linger?

Access governance

Roles, requests, and approvals: who decides who gets access, and is it documented?

Privileged access

Admin accounts and critical systems: the accounts an attack does the most damage with.

Governance & compliance

Recertification, segregation of duties (SoD), and audit trail: can you prove the controls work?

The engagement

How it works

  1. 01 · Pre-analysis

We start with your business, not your systems

A short workshop on your business, goals, and current setup, so the assessment measures what matters to you.

Two advisers talking by the IAM Group banner
  2. 02 · Data collection

Interviews, documentation and a look inside the systems

Interviews with key people, review of documentation and, where it adds value, a Technical Review that reads the entitlements straight out of the systems, so the assessment has numbers behind it.

Consultant working with code on three screens
  3. 03 · Analysis

Four dimensions, measured against best practice

Maturity rating across the four dimensions using our IAM Maturity Model, measured against best practice and international standards.

Consultant drawing IAM architecture on a whiteboard
  4. 04 · Report and presentation

Ready for the executive team or the board

A tailored report with recommendations – and a presentation ready for your executive team or board.

Why IAM Group

An assessment with no hidden agenda

  • Specialized in IAM. Identity & Access Management is all we do.
  • Vendor-neutral assessment. The roadmap points to your needs – not to a product. The conclusion may just as well be process work or PAM as an IGA platform.
  • We know the market and the pitfalls from both advisory and implementation – the recommendations are proven in practice.
  • Deliverables you can use from day one – ready for management and the board.

Our view

A maturity assessment is not a report card. It is a prioritised list of what to do first.

That is why ours ends with a roadmap your management can act on, not with a score nobody can use on Monday morning.

The next station on the journey

Does the roadmap point to IGA?

Then our IGA Ready pre-implementation project is the natural next step. The gap analysis and roadmap from your Maturity Assessment feed directly into IGA Ready's first phase – you don't pay for the same work twice.

Good to know

  • Pricing: Time & Materials. You get a concrete estimate after an initial dialogue, so you know the budget before you begin.
  • Your effort: access to key people for interviews and an internal coordinator – we handle the rest.
  • Numbers behind the assessment: if you want the entitlements read straight out of the systems, we include a Technical Review in the data collection. The assessment then rests on data and not only on interviews.
